Zero Waste Living

“We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly, we need million doing it imperfectly." -Anne-Marie Bonneau

What is Zero Waste?

“Zero Waste: The conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning and with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health.”

– Zero Waste International Alliance

The problem with the throwing stuff "away"

Where is "away" anyway? Here on Maui it is the landfill. In the landfill, devoid of air, our food waste degrades and emits methane and our household wastes take up space and leach toxins. With Maui county in the process of expanding the landfill we are encouraging people to rethink waste as a resource and to curb consumerism so we don't end up with as much waste in the first place.

See our directory page for resources on how to reduce waste in your life or business and see our recycling page for why recycling just isn't enough.
