Disposable Plastic Foodware Ban

On April 21, 2020 Maui County officially adopted Bill 52 outlawing the sale, use, and distribution of disposable plastic food ware in Maui County. Bill 52 takes effect January 1, 2022. 

What's Included in Bill 52?

Effective Date: January 1, 2022

Plastic disposable food ware will not be allowed to be sold, provided, or offered for use in Maui County, including:

  • Hot Cups

  • Cold Cups

  • Plates

  • Bowls

  • Trays

  • Hinged/Lidded containers

  • Utensils (forks, knives, spoons, sporks)

  • Straws

  • Stirrers

  • Cocktail Picks

  • Plastic Chopsticks

Non-plastic utensils, straws, coffee stirrers, cocktail picks, and chopsticks must only be provided upon request or provided in a self-service area dispenser.
